This is a six-session, online course designed to bring you through the entire process of self-publishing, from finishing the manuscript, to publication day and beyond. You can be the published author you have always dreamed of. The best part is that with a little bit of guidance, you can do it all yourself!
Course Outline:
Lesson 1: Introduction to Self-Publishing– learn about the differences between traditional publishing and self-publishing, the benefits of self-publishing, and why it is the path forward for authors today. In this lesson, we will also cover self-publishing platform options and the differences between each of them.
Lesson 2: Establishing a Tailored Strategy and Key Decisions– learn about the decisions you have to make before embarking on your publishing journey to avoid costly and time-consuming mistakes.
Lesson 3: What Comes After the Finished Manuscript-in this lesson we will discuss the first steps of the publishing journey after the manuscript is written, the importance of beta readers and editing, which types of editing you will need, and how to find professional editors.
Lesson 4: All Things Book Cover- Creating your book cover involves much more than just the design- Back Cover Blurb, Author Bio, Professional Photos, ISBNs, and Publishing Imprint- in this segment, we will cover each of these topics in-depth, and why they are important in the process of creating a professional looking book cover.
Lesson 5: Preparing for Publication– you are getting close to publication time, but you still need to do many things to prepare for the big day. In this session, we will cover topics such as the copyright and acknowledgment pages, trim size and publishing platform choices, formatting vs interior design, and the most anticipated part of the preparation- ordering proof copies!
Lesson 6: Launch Day– In the final session we will cover topics that pertain to launch day, such as choosing a launch date, putting together a launch team, uploading your files to your chosen publishing platforms, social media and marketing, and the best part, your launch celebration! We will discuss what comes after launch day, your journey is just beginning!
